BEHIND THE SCENES (THE MAKING OF BEAUTIFUL TANGLE)

In July 2018, we headed back to Nashville for the first time since 1999 to record Beautiful Tangle. The last time I was there, we recorded Angel with a wonderful record producer Garth Fundis, who I had been a big fan of for years. He produced some of my all time favourite albums for Trisha Yearwood and New Grass Revival.

My more recent albums were made in Australia, but we felt ready to head back to the U.S and work with some of the finest musicians on the planet and have the opportunity to write with some incredible writers.

After a 12 year break from recording we headed back to familiar ground and recorded again at The Sound Emporium. (Somebody's Daughter and Angel were recorded here)

This studio has a real warmth and a wonderful history to it and we really soaked up that magical energy.  Some of my favourite artists like Kenny Rogers, Dottie West, Johnny Cash, Don McClean and John Denver recorded here. And Garth Fundis produced Don Williams, Keith Whitley, New Grass Revival and Trisha Yearwood here as well.  The studio has also been graced by artists like REM and Alan Jackson among others.

We recorded with an all female engineering team – head engineer Leslie Richter and assistant engineer Rachael Moore,

It was so wonderful having my husband Rod produce this album. We wrote a lot of the songs together and both had such a clear vision of what we wanted this album to be. Rod is beyond brilliant and was absolutely in his element working with these great musicians! Sometimes they just took my breath away watching, listening and hearing my songs and stories come to life ………
