Track 1 LIVE IT
I loved this song the moment I heard it because it really reflects my thoughts about life.

We have a great big painting in our house that says “Live Well, Laugh Often and Love Much”. That really is our motto. The song talks about making the most of every moment and enjoying your life whatever it may be, wherever it may be. Make the most of what you have before it’s too late!

We actually recorded this song over 3 years ago, but I got so caught up in the moment of just “living it”, enjoying being a Mother to our beautiful little boy, the simple things like tucking him in, singing him to sleep and spoiling my gorgeous husband. So we decided to just put my new album on hold for a while because you don’t get those times back when your kids are little! I’m so glad we did! I think in life, you really have to just follow your heart and do what feels right.

Just Live It!

Track 2 THE TRUTH ABOUT LIES
I have the most wonderful parents in the world who always taught me to tell the truth no matter what and that a lie is actually a lot of hard work, sustaining the story and keeping it consistent. It can become a tangled web you get yourself stuck in! Now that I‘m a parent myself, I’m working very hard on honesty with our 3 year old!! But I think it really is one of the big lessons in life that you just have to learn!

Track 3 NEVER MINE
I found this song through a very dear friend Carol Young, who is a member of the Greencards. They are a great bluegrass band that my husband Rod has toured with extensively all over the world. Carol has always had great musical taste and when she played it for me I just loved it.

They say if you love someone you should set them free and if they don’t come back they were never yours. This is what I think this song is all about.

Track 4 LITTLE CIRCLE
I wrote this song with Rod and Jerry Salley. It’s a song about my wedding ring.

The day Rod asked me to marry him, I asked my Mum if I could try on my Nanna’s wedding ring that she had left to my Mum, just to see what it looked like. Well it turned out to be exactly the same size and style as my engagement ring. We obviously hadn’t planned it, this was just fate. My Mum cried and said she was sure my Grandmother would love me to have it for my wedding ring.

It just means so much to me because my Grandparents were happily married for 65 years, then My Mum and Dad have had the ring and they have been married for 40 years and I look at it as not only lucky but it carries with it our tradition of love, commitment and happiness. This year my ring will be 84 years old.

Track 5 HEART LIKE A WALL
Sometimes the uncertainties and ups and downs of life can cause people to build great big walls around their hearts. At first listen to this song, I thought it was about a couple in a relationship, but to me it’s about the sadness caused by people trying to protect themselves because of past hurts. I have seen so many relationships destruct not because of each other but because of someone from the past causing pain so deep, they just can’t trust again. I work really hard at keeping my walls down with the people I love. I try hard to keep my heart and arms open to all those who I love. It’s something I really have to work on but it’s worth it.

Track 6 STEPPED RIGHT IN IT
The first line of this song is, “I stop for every traffic sign, can’t ever be too cautious” Well that really is me, I am such a goody two shoes!!! But I am lucky to be so madly in love, and lots of my single friends say how did you do that?? I say it just comes when you least expect it, when you’re not even looking for love, you step right in it!

Track 7 WALKS OF LIFE
This song was written by my husband/producer Rod McCormack and a dear friend of ours from Nashville, Jerry Salley (he wrote “That’ll Be Me” with us).

The first time I sang this song in the studio, I was crying so much, we had to do it again. It is such an emotional song that talks about every big step you take in your life. The big steps that, somehow, you just have to do on your own. The first steps of a child. Walking down the aisle and the daughter taking that first step of her new life while the father tentatively takes his first steps away from her. And then in the final verse, two life long lovers have to part forever and the brave first steps as the widower walks into such an uncertain and unfamiliar future without her.

Walks of Life somehow magically touches every major turning point in a life and certainly touches my heart every time I sing it. It reminds me that no matter who you are or what you do, we all have to go through these times in life.

Track 8 YOU MAKE MY HEART SING
I wrote this with a great new writer called Lou Bradley and Rod.

When I was writing the credits for my album I was talking about why this new album has taken so long – and it dawned on me that the reasons were so right, I really needed to write a song about it! To talk about why I took the time off, and how I so cherished my time with family and loved ones – you can never get those times back.

So while our little boy Jackson is the reason why the new album has taken so long, he is also the reason I am loving singing again more than I ever imagined!! He makes my heart sing!

I love him more than I ever thought was possible!!!!

When you listen to this song, keep in mind that every single sound on it other than my voice was created by Rod’s voice and mouth!! (no insruments at all!!!)

Track 9 SONG I NEVER HEARD
I wrote this song with good friends Lyn Bowtell and Jim McBride from Nashville (he has written many hit songs including “Chatahoochie” for Alan Jackson)

We wrote this about fate really. I’m always amazed how, in such a busy world with billions of people, we somehow manage to wind our way through life’s maze and find our soul mates. I believe every wrong turn we think we make and every mistake we make is all part of a master plan on the road to where we are suppose to be! Every wrong turn is just a lesson and every bad relationship is just God’s way of making you appreciate the good ones when they come along.

Track 10 A WOMAN KNOWS
The first time I heard this song I loved it purely because it sounds so country. I feel I have come a full circle over the last 15 years since my career began. I started out very country and eventually somehow my music found itself sounding on the poppier side of country. I really wasn’t comfortable with that because it’s not who I am. I grew up a country girl, and sometimes it takes a trip or two around the world to realise you can take the girl out of the country but you can’t take the country out of the girl!

And I have always loved songs that signify the strength of a woman, and this song does just that. Women are incredibly intuitive and we must never forget to trust that.

Track 11 ON A GOOD DAY
I wrote this with my husband Rod McCormack and Jerry Salley.

It’s been ten years now since I started working with the Leukaemia foundation helping to raise money and awareness. In that time we have met some incredible people with such a will to survive but we have also met some people who have lost their much-loved ones. This song is written for them.

Over ten years ago, I received a letter from a little girl named Louisa that went like this. “ I’m writing you this letter to tell you goodbye, coz Mummy and the Doctors say it’s time.” She said “ I have Leukaemia. That’s a big word for me to spell isn’t it coz I’m only six.”

She told me she had two wishes. To swim with the dolphins and to meet me. We were on tour at the time, and sadly got to her home town ten days too late. Her mum met me back stage and gave me some little treasures that she left me in her will. Her little girl jewellery (plastic rings and things) a fridge magnet that said, “ those who wish to sing will always find a song”, and a letter that said “if you feel a hand on your shoulder, or a kiss right out of thin air and you turn around and there’s nobody there, well that’ll be me”. Well we turned that letter into a song called That’ll be Me. (On the “Somebody’s Daughter” album).

I felt the greatest gift of all that the little girl left me was the way she changed my life.

From that moment on, we got in touch with the Leukaemia Foundation and offered our help. That was ten years ago now, and I am so grateful I got to know little Louisa because she has made me a better person. She is the reason we have done all of our charity work, and she is the reason we got to meet the incredible people we wrote “On a Good Day” for. She has even changed the way we parent our own little boy. Jackson understands that sometimes Mummy and Daddy have to go away to help raise money for people who are not as healthy as he is. Sometimes he doesn’t want us to leave but I think at only 3 ½ he understands that part of our family life is helping other people. We are trying our hardest to raise the kind of child that thinks helping others is just a normal part of life. I think about Louisa all the time when I look at him and I think of all the ways she changed our life!

We are hoping to raise lots of money for my favourite charity, the Leukaemia Foundation. Many thanks again to Louisa and a special mention to our lovely friend, her Mum.

Track 12 THE EVENING STAR
I wrote this song with Lyn Bowtell and Rod.

This is a song about a woman who chose her career over everything else that is wonderful in life. She lost the love of her life, but to me, more importantly, she lost the chance to have a child by leaving it too late.

I went to see the Dixie Chicks recently and they said that one of their songs was about infertility, and I had thought up until that point that you probably wouldn’t normally say that on stage, but it is one of the realities of today’s modern working woman, who chooses to have a career first and think about children later – and sometimes it’s just physically too late.

I believe that no matter who you are or what you do, we all need to love and be loved.

Track 13 IVY AND THE OAK
This is a song written by an old friend of ours, Fred Koller (Nashville based writer) and Janice Ian. (“At Seventeen”, “Fly Too High” and many other hits)

I just loved this song the moment I heard. It talks of true love being so connected and long lasting that it is intertwined like an ivy vine around an old oak tree.

We originally recorded it just to be the “b side” on my first single, but loved it so much, the album didn’t feel complete without it.

Rod decided to do it in the most simplistic way possible with just one guitar and voice. No harmonies and no frills. I love it like that. I think it allows the song to convey the power of the message. That true love stands strong through the ever changing seasons of life.
